Shay Church
Artist, Adjunct Professor Shay Church is an artist based in Kalamazoo, MI. For twelve years he has integrated sculpture, craft, site-specific installation, performance, and video into his art-making process. In 2000, Shay earned a BFA in Sculpture from Western Michigan University and immediately went on to be a studio assistant for Jun Kaneko in Omaha, NE. Since that time he has received a MFA in Spatial Arts from San Jose State University, was a Joan Mitchell Award Recipient, a artist-in-residence at The Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT, Head of Ceramics at Virginia Commonwealth University and now is adjunct art faculty at Western Michigan University. His temporary wet clay installations have included life-size whales and elephants left to fall apart in abandoned buildings, parking lots, outdoor spaces and galleries such as The Cue Foundation in NY, NY, Foster/White Gallery in Seattle, WA, and The Ceramic Research Center in Phoenix, AZ.
